Much Love, Much Respect

Greater Service, Greater Progress



Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., was founded on the campus of Butler University on November 12, 1922 by seven school teachers in Indianapolis, Indiana. The sorority was incorporated within the state of Indiana in December 1922 and as a national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929. The founding women of the sorority are: Mary Lou Allison, Gardener Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivivan Irene White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin, and Cabera Mc Clure.



Sigmma Gamma Rho is the only historically African-American sorority that was not founded and charted at a Historically Black College University.

Supports two affiliates: The RHOERS, a group of young women, and PHILOS, women friends of the sorority.


Sigma Gamma Rho has over 100,000 members
More than 500 undergraduate and alumnae chapters throughout the US, Bermuda, Bahamas, Canada, Africa, and Korea.



On my campus at Western Kentucky University  the Eta Phi Sigma Gamma Rho Chapter was chartered  on April 1, 1978 by fifteen collegiate women.

Scholarship, services, and sisterhood are the center focus of the Eta Phi Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
